The excitement in the air is palpable. Before the chairlifts have a chance to start moving, skiers and snowboarders up and down the country are gearing up for the winter.
If shopping for this season’s in-style jackets and salopettes, and sharing last year’s ski holiday photos on Instagram (#WinterIsComing) isn’t exciting enough, then the vast array of ski-themed events throughout October and November is sure to get you hyped. Here is just a sample of the UK ski events we’re looking forward to this autumn.
The Brits – British Indoor Slopestyle Championships
You may know the Brits for their epic snowboarding and freeskiing championship, which they host each winter in Laax, Switzerland. But for those of you that can’t wait until April 2018 for this epic event, the British Indoor Slopestyle Championships is an exciting prelude.
Taking place this Saturday at the Chill Factore snow dome in Manchester, the event will see exceptional UK talent competing to become the Overall British Slopestyle Champion.
Après Ski London
A noticeable trend in recent years has been the number of après ski bars opening up for the winter in the UK. Clearly, snow and skis aren’t required if you want to party mountain style! We’re OK with that.
One of the premier après ski events is Après Ski London. Last year’s event sold out, and it makes a welcome return this year to the Nordic Bar in Soho. The event will have live music, games, and (of course) a shot ski.
The Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show
A staple of the pre-season calendar, the Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show returns to Battersea Park this October to celebrate all things Alpine. Highlights include Mount Battersea where athletes demonstrate their amazing freestyle talent and the Alpine Street Food where you can sample the tastiest mountain-style morsels.
It is a great place to shop for the latest ski gadgets and fashions in readiness for your ski holiday. And we’ll be there too. Come along to our Inghams booth at the Ski and Snowboard Show to say “hi” and to find out all about our latest ski holiday destinations. We can’t wait to see you!
MSP Films “Drop Everything” Screening
There’s nothing like the epic cinematography of an amazing ski film to put you in the mood for a ski holiday. The latest movie from Matchstick Productions is an exciting proposition. Drop Everything features the world’s best freeskiers visiting stunning locations on a fun-filled adventure.
The movie has its Scottish premier at the Cameo Cinema in Edinburgh. The event will include pre-show drinks and amazing prizes are up for grabs during the shows raffle. It’s sure to get you excited for the winter.
Now in its fifth year, the International Freeski Film Festival or iF3 has become a staple of the London ski-scene. Held at the Clapham Grand in South London, the event provides a platform for both established and up-and-coming filmmakers from all across the globe.
A tent pole event for the local ski community, the iF3 is a great place to chat to the athletes and filmmakers. You’ll certainly be inspired to make your own film! And it’s not just about the movies either. There’s also live music, dancing, games and more – it’s an après experience guaranteed to get you excited for your winter on the slopes.
Snow Camp Rally 2017
Hemel Hempsted – Milton Keynes – Castleford – Manchester – Tamworth
The exciting Snow Camp Rally is an epic one-day race against time. Twenty teams of four attempt to ski as many runs as possible across five indoor snow centres around the UK. Think the Three Peaks Challenge – but with skis!
The starts at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempsted and finishes at the Tamworth Snowdome. The event is held to raise money for the charity Snow Camp, which provides opportunities and training through snow-sports for young people in the inner-city. You can register a team to take part in the rally on the Snow Camp website.
