FACT OR FICTION: There’s nothing to do in St Wolfgang.

So, if I’m spending my holiday in St Wolfgang, St Gilgen or Fuschl, what is there to do?

A better question would be, what can’t you do?

You can paraglide off the Zwoelferhorn mountain, travelling up by cablecar and flying down under the expertise (and assurance!) of to a licensed glider.

You can waterski, windsurf, sail, kayak, stand-up-paddle board and swim.

You can enjoy the clarity of the lakes while diving around countless wrecks and detritus from the Second World War.

Fuschl

You can enjoy hundreds of kilometres of walking paths and cycling paths. Or alternatively the new e-bikes (electronic bicycles with a boost to help you up the hills!) are now common, and allow you to access places you would have otherwise found difficult to reach!

You can take ferries around the lake and watch the stunning countryside passing you by.

There are cable cars and cog railways to enable you to enjoy the bird’s-eye view of the surrounding area.

And there are fabulous places to visit nearby, not least of all:

Gosau – a stunning, Norwegian fiord-like setting complete with glacier and view of the highest peak in the area (3006m)

Hallstatt – UNESCO World Heritage Site and an amazing setting. A village sitting on a steep mountain with stunning original celtic dwellings and museums.

Berchtesgaden – home to Hitler’s Eagles Nest and a fascinating Second World War tour as well as a beautiful little town below.

Berchtesgaden.

Werfen – the site of the film ‘Where Eagles Dare’… where eagles continue to dare. Two falconry displays take place here every day, the largest buzzards and vultures having a magnificent 3m wingspan.

Salzburg – home of Mozart and still one of the most famous cities in the world. No visit here would be complete without a walk through the Old Town and up to the castle.

Salzburg

Mondsee – the Sound of Music was filmed here and it continues to be one of the most popular places in the Salzkammergut due to the church, where Maria’s wedding scenes were filmed.

On top of that there are regular music concerts with brass bands playing every Wednesday and Saturday evening, folklore evenings every Thursday with thigh-slapping, log chopping and local costumes. Not to mention the Sound of Austria and Operetta music concerts in the Michael Pacher Haus concert hall.

In short, there’s fun for all. You will never be short of something to do in the Salzkammergut and what’s more, you’ll always feel so very, very welcome!
